Like last year, I offer the categories of snubs and happy nominations to go along with a choice of who should win and who will win. This season, I've been doing my due diligence by tracking what movies and people have won the precursor and lead-up awards to the Oscars on my "2011 Awards Tracker" page. To have only two nominees is kind of an insult to the category and the rich history that song has in cinema. From the tracker results, you could almost say they nominated and, eventually, the wrong song from the movie.

The nominees: John Williams (The Adventures of Tintin), Ludovic Bource (The Artist), Howard Shore (Hugo), Alberto Iglesias (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), John Williams (War Horse)

Who should win and will win: As you will see, this is The Artist's year, but this is truly one the film deserves by a landslide. In a silent film setting, Ludovic Bource's score is one of the few things we have to go on for rhythm, pace, and tone. His score nails it and is the best of the year.

The Harry Potter series is wrongfully not getting that respect or luxury.

Happy to be there: Moneyball. When you think of great examples of sound, you're not going to think of brooding Brad Pitt or the sound of conference call ring in baseball office. It has no business in this category.

Who should win: I guess, if I have to tip my hat to the volume of the action, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has the largest grouping and sample of mixed sound. That doesn't mean it's good. It just has the most.

Who will win: Chalk up another spot for Hugo. I said in my full review of the movie that it was the most technically superior film of the year and it deserves wins in this category, and many others.
